Karen Schreier is the first woman to be appointed a federal district court judge in South Dakota. She has served in that role for 21 years, presiding over matters in Rapid City, Pierre, and Sioux Falls. Judge Schreier was also the first woman to serve as United States Attorney for the District of South Dakota. Recently,
Judge Schreier was appointed by Governor Kristi Noem to serve as a delegate to the Women’s Vote Centennial Delegation called “Her Vote. Her Voice.” HVHV has brought together hundreds of statewide volunteers to celebrate the 100th anniversary of women gaining the right to vote.
She is a native of Flandreau, South Dakota. Karen and her husband, Tim Dougherty, live in Sioux Falls.
